Privacy and Security

We recognise that life in a communal setting and the need to accept help with personal tasks are inherently invasive of People’s ability to enjoy the pleasure of being alone and undisturbed. We therefore, strive to retain as much privacy as possible for People in the following ways

  • People will have free access to their bedrooms.
  • Staff providing personal care tasks will demonstrate understanding and respect for the privacy of People
  • Doors are not left open whilst personal care tasks are being undertaken.
  • The routines of the staff and Home are never allowed to override any individual right to privacy.
  • People will be free to take their meals in their own rooms if they choose to do so.
  • All members of staff and visitors will obtain/seek permission from the Service User before entering a bedroom.
  • All People will have free access to private bathing/showering and toilet facilities.
  • Any financial transactions involving People will be conducted in private.
  • Facilities for People to make private telephone calls will always be available.
  • Facilities for People to receive visitors in private will always be available.
  • People will be encouraged to live as they wish in the Home as far as is possible without causing hardship or difficulty for other People.
  • People will have such privacy as they desire, to have their personal space respected.
  • People will have visits from their doctors in private or with the support of care staff, backed by full sympathetic and supportive care, and will be aided in attending clinics and outpatient visits privately or with support.
  • Wherever possible the Service User will hold a room key.
  • A locked drawer is provided for each Service User, to which only they have access.
  • Offering assistance with tasks and in situations that would otherwise be perilous for People.
  • Protecting People from all forms of abuse and from all possible abusers.
  • Providing readily accessible channels for dealing with complaints by People and their families.
  • Creating an atmosphere in the home which People’s experience as open, positive and inclusive.
